A Propos Journey
About nine years ago, I started this blog. At the time my goal was to share my journey in Israel when I participated in a Masa Israel program called Israel Government Fellows. For 6 months, I interned in the Prime Minister's Office and past posts on this blog narrate this experience. Masa translates in Hebrew as journey and my participation in this Masa Israel program turned out to be a transformative experience, the beginning of a real Jewish journey!
A few weeks ago, I reopened this blog, it brought back fond memories of my experience in Israel. As I am starting a new adventure at the Jewish Agency for Israel, it reminded me why Israel experiences are so powerful. Masa Israel is a flagship program of the Jewish Agency for Israel in full partnership with the state of Israel. In fact, for every dollar invested in Masa Israel, the Government of Israel matches it.
Every year, more than 10,000 young Jewish adults from around the world experience Israel in a long term program, they are starting a journey that will mark their lives forever. In fact, it was part of Ariel Sharon's vision that more young Jews should spend one year in Israel. In Ariel Sharon's last public appearance, he greeted Masa participants and told them: “We need your support, but more than anything else, we need you to come live here, in the State of Israel, the state of the Jewish people.”
Thanks to the advent of Masa Israel, the number of long term programs tripled. Each program is required to teach Hebrew, take participants on Israel day trips and everyone is entitled to a grant and financial aid is available.
As I travel and I experience the impact of the Jewish Agency for Israel, I thought I needed to rename this blog. A propos my new adventure, I could not start without sharing how the journey started.
